At Winter Gardens we believe that music education has something to offer all children of all abilities and that therefore our responsibility is to provide an enjoyable, progressive and challenging music education for our pupils.
“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high- quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self- confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.”
(National Curriculum, 2014)
We offer a rich and diverse curriculum for music in which children learn about music through practical music making. All that we do is rooted in singing and our children sing regularly throughout their time at school. Children are encouraged to discuss, compose and play musical instruments. We also celebrate by performing in a variety of contexts which include to our peers, local concerts and music festivals.
Children who wish to pursue their musical experience further can take part in a range of extra-curricular activities including the choir and one to one instrument tuition (piano and/or guitar). Pupils are able to apply for a voucher towards the cost of instrumental tuition if their families are in receipt of income support.
